Luc de Brabandere
After completing his secondary education in Latin and Greek at Collège Saint-Pierre in Uccle, he graduated in 1971 as a civil engineer in applied mathematics from the Catholic University of Louvain. In 2002, also at UCL, he obtained a degree in philosophy.
He began his career in 1973 as an IT specialist in the banking sector. In 1989, he was appointed Managing Director of the Brussels Stock Exchange. Following a disagreement with stockbrokers, he stepped down the following year and decided to turn his passion for creativity into a profession by moving into business consulting. From 2001 to 2013, he was a partner at the Boston Consulting Group, where he developed methods focused on creativity and foresight. He is now a Fellow of BCG.
In parallel, in 2000, he co-founded the communication agency Cartoonbase with Olivier Saive. The agency brings together artists and consultants, initially promoting humorous illustration as a communication tool for businesses. Today, led by Martin Saive and Thomas Doutrepont, Cartoonbase mainly focuses on video production.
From 2011 to 2018, he taught a course entitled “Philosophical Approaches to Technology and Management” at the Louvain School of Management. He currently teaches “Critical Thinking” at Solvay Business School and occasionally lectures at IMD in Lausanne and École Centrale Paris.
A passionate collector of non-electric calculating machines, he donated his collection to the Museum of Louvain-la-Neuve and the Brussels Planetarium.
